The Authors League Fund

Most of you know that for more than 85 years the Authors League Fund has assisted professional writers in financial distress. Our Fund exists to help writers continue their careers, even their lives, with dignity - however unfortunate their immediate circumstances.

Many who get in touch with us cannot feed themselves and their dependents. One author wrote in her application: "I have enough food for only one more week." Others have severe health problems but inadequate or no insurance. Some face eviction or other harassment. Older authors, after long and honorable careers, often find it difficult to adjust to changing trends in the publishing world. They can no longer find a market for their work.

Thanks to your generosity, the Fund has been able to give interest-free loans without strings or time limitations to professional writers in every field.

The Authors League Fund exists because authors are willing to help other authors who find themselves in urgent and unexpected difficulty. We are - Fund, applicants, contributors - a community.
